Over the past year or so I’ve found new ways to share my work. The submission and rejection process, while humbling, can be a little dry, not to mention demoralizing. The writing community here in Dubai is tight, and venues like Cafe Kkai along with groups like Stage Creatures and WriteClubDXB bring together an eclectic mix of voices, stories, and perspectives. They make it possible to make new friends while also giving us a space to hear our words live. Something I enjoyed about this event was the opportunity to mingle with others who are on a similar writing journey. The venue itself was also so cute, with soft lighting (as all lighting should be, am I right?) and only a few tables, tucked away on a side street in Al Quoz – a cozy, creative haven. I find small spaces like these make vulnerable messages easier to share with strangers. And they have hot chocolate, so…you know how I feel about a warm cuppa.

Here’s to many more nights of words and connecting.
